Welcome to the Map Room forum. Map Rooms are community spaces for data exploration through mapping. The Map Room Project realizes an intersection of humanities, technology, and social justice, puts the narrative in the hands of the people, and creates a safe space for open and honest discussion. The first Map Room was hosted in St. Louis in 2017, in a vacant school’s gymnasium in the North City. In it, over the course of a month, 29 groups came in to make 100 square foot maps of their neighborhoods and communities. They were aided by robots and projection, but primarily drew huge maps by hand speak to their lived experience of their city. Map Rooms are now underway in more than ten other cities. This forum is a place for people to find out more about the project, to get involved, and to share experiences and advice between Map Room teams all around the world.
